Take something exquisite and distort it by 20 percent. Shape it into something
altogether edgier and darker. Keep it minimal and dead slow.
Throw in some scary lyrics about murder and death. Hear them sung beautifully by married
Mormon couple Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker.
And ther eyou have them -- the incomparable Low.
Back with their eighth album, the masters of "slowcore" have delivered a smouldering
tour-de-force.
New elements such as looped vocals and drum machines slot neatly into the band's
distinctive sound.
While previous album 2005's The Great Destroyer was postively upbeat by Low standards,
these ghostly, effects-laden dirges never fail to get under your skin.
